Coronation Street has confirmed yet another twist for Megan Walsh amid her pregnancy. For months, the teacher, played by Beth Nixon, has been at the heart of a controversial storyline in which she has been carrying out an illicit relationship with her student Will Driscoll.

She had also started up a fake relationship with Daniel Osbourne to cover her tracks and when she found herself pregnant, she disclosed the news only to Will. Once the situation became apparent to families involved, Megan was taken in for police questioning but released due to lack of evidence.

When she refused to undergo a DNA test to prove the paternity of her baby, Daniel split up with her and in the latest episode of the world’s longest-running TV soap, it was confirmed that Megan was no longer pregnant – seemingly after suffering a fall during an altercation with Will’s grandmother Maggie.

It all came after Megan, who suffers from PCOS, decided to have a termination earlier in the year, but viewers were led to believe she hadn’t gone through with it.

Megan went to the police over the incident, and when DS Lisa Swain arrived at the Rovers to quiz Maggie on it all, the pub owner simply called Megan a “liar,” and claimed she had slipped over. Later on, Maggie went storming round to Megan’s flat and battered on the door. She confirmed she had dropped the complaint, but alleged that she had lost the baby after falling over – and claimed it was Daniel’s all along.

Earlier that day, Megan had tried to brush the whole thing off as she and will had a secret meeting in her car. She said: “It’s not that big a deal. To us, it is, but not to them. They were nice. They offered me counselling but women lose babies all the time,” ti which Will replied: “We didn’t lose ours though, it was murdered!”

Megan suggested that the miscarriage would be a good way for Will to get out of the relationship once and for all, but he wasn’t convinced in the slightest. Maggie then went home to announce the news and coldly said: “The child of a child abuser. What chance would it have?” But it was Will’s dad Ben who took a different view, noting that any evidence has now been lost because of her actions.

In the final scene, Megan was seen actually undergoing a therapy session,- where she dropped the bombshell news that she had had an abortion. She said: “I had the chance to be a mum and I chose a termination. Well, I’ve already got rid of one kid – why should I be trusted with another.”

Fans were quick to react to the news that Megan has told yet another lie, as one took to X to write: “I f****** knew she had an abortion. It’s all part to make Will hate his own family and isolate him more. Don’t feel bad now Megan, you’re a f****** monster you deserve anything that comes your way.”

Another said: “So I’m guessing Megan had the abortion when she ‘disappeared’, but she’s claiming Maggie killed the baby? Diabolical. I don’t see how she’s on this show much longer,” and a third, noting that the whole thing could be a lie to begin with, wrote: “A lot of people guessed Megan wasn’t really pregnant & maybe you all were right. I never fully agreed because why would she take her prenatal vitamins & stop drinking even when Will wasn’t near if she wasn’t really pregnant?”

A fourth wrote: “After seeing today’s episode, I believe Megan probably aborted that baby in the days she wasnt picking up Wll’s call. That baby is evidence of her grooming and I think she used Maggie pushing her as a cover like she had a miscarriage. I figured she would rather be barren for the rest of her life than go to prison for her crimes.”

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
