EastEnders’ Nicola Mitchell has welcomed a new baby girl into the world, but she is now fighting for her life.
Last year on the BBC soap, Nicola (Laura Doddington) discovered that she was pregnant with George Knight’s (Colin Salmon) baby following a fling with the former professional boxer.
George vowed to support Nicola through the pregnancy, which she welcomed, and the excited parents soon learned they were expecting a baby girl.
During Thursday’s emotional trip to the Square (April 2), George found Nicola on the floor of her house, and experiencing excruciating pain.
Nicola insisted it was false labor as she was only 31 weeks into her pregnancy, and the restaurateur suggested they go to the hospital just to be safe.

While receiving care, Nicola’s waters broke, and she was rushed into an emergency surgery with a placenta abruption and needed a C-section.
Later, the doctor informed George that he had a newborn baby girl who was in the NICU. Nicola, however, had a fever and needed to be kept isolated while she recovered, meaning she couldn’t hold or see her little girl.
The news left Nicola devastated, as George was forced to keep his distance while delivering the update. The parents then agreed to call their daughter Ivy before George headed to meet his youngest daughter.
Next week, Nicola remains in isolation while she is still recovering and grows increasingly frustrated as she is separated from her precious baby, Ivy.
During a visit to the NICU, proud dad George is offered the chance for skin‑to‑skin contact, which he declines as he wants Nicola to be the first to hold her.

Unable to see Ivy, Nicola clashes with George and blames him for the situation, citing that he has been too distracted by his new restaurant, Knight Fusion. Nicola is then determined to see Ivy, but at what lengths will she go?
Later in the week, a recovering Nicola is finally able to hold Ivy. The touching sight prompts George to tell Nicola he loves her, but she doesn’t respond.
When hearing of the exchange, Harry Mitchell (Elijah Holloway) suggests Nicola doesn’t let her past ruin her future. Worn out and tired, Nicola and George continue to visit Ivy, struggling to leave her.
As Nicola continues to have a tough time following her premature labor and Ivy’s traumatic birth, will she change her mind about George’s romantic confession?
