Little Debbie was ‘mentally broken’ wandering the streets

A “mentally broken” dog found stray in Cork is now living in “the lap of luxury” after being rescued by a brilliant animal welfare charity.

The Cork Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (CSPCA) shared how little Debbie was saved from a life of suffering and has been adopted by her forever family. The sweet little Bichon Frisé now looks completely unrecognisable after being taken off the streets.

Her story started in February when the charity was alerted following reports of a tattered little dog running stray in the Knocknaheeny area on Cork’s northside. The charity explained that members of the public worked with them and the Cork City Council housing department to help track her down and bring her to safety.

The poor pooch was “life-threateningly” ill and devastatingly, was said to be “mentally broken” after being a stray. Her poor health included a prolapsed uterus; she was very underweight, and her fur was heavily matted. She was rushed to Glasslyn Vet Clinic who devoted days to caring for her.

Debbie was a little “fighter” and was saved with “top-notch” treatment. Here she was christened Debbie and received a much-needed grooming. As soon as she was well enough to leave the vets, a member of staff took her home as a foster. The young pup was quickly adopted and brought into her new home.

The lovely little dog is now living her life to the fullest, in the “lap of luxury,” the charity says. It’s a heartwarming “rage to riches” story, and the CSPCA shared some gorgeous snaps of her before and after her transformation – including a cosy snap of Debbie wearing a little jumper, curled up in a cosy bed beside the fire. She also made some new pals: a cat and a golden retriever.
