A man was pronounced dead at the scene of a fatal road collision in Co Louth on Monday night.
Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident on the N53 at Rassan, near Dundalk, at around 10.15pm.
Two-cars were involved in the collision, with the driver of one vehicle, a man in his late 60s, pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was removed to Louth County Hospital, where a postmortem was due to take place. The coroner has been notified, An Garda Síochána said in a statement.
A woman aged in her 20s, who was travelling in the second car, was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the statement added.
The scene was cordoned off and preserved to allow for a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Traffic diversions were in place on Monday morning, gardaí said.
The force appealed to anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward, including those who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision.
The man’s death brings the number of people killed on the State’s roads so far this year to 47, according to Garda statistics. A total of 42 people had died in road traffic incidents in the same period last year.
