Broadcaster Claire Byrne has ruled out appearing on Dancing With The Stars – saying she “just wouldn’t be a good dancer”.
The former RTÉ star, who left the state broadcaster to join Newstalk, said it’s unlikely she’ll be following in the footsteps of her ex-colleagues by taking part in the show.
In an interview with RSVP, Byrne said she “would love” to be good at it – but fears she wouldn’t have the coordination.
Asked if she would be appearing on the show, the mother-of-three said: “I don’t think so. My children would like me to do it, but I think they want me to do it so they can laugh at me.
“I’m physically tough so I know I’d be able for it, but I’m just not coordinated. I just wouldn’t be a good dancer unfortunately, as much as I’d like to tell myself I could do it I just don’t think I could.”
Byrne, 50, opened up about her family life and said the RTÉ dance show is a big hit in her household.
“We like to watch a film on the weekends as well if we can, we try to carve out the time. We watched Dancing With The Stars when that was on. We’d all sit down and watch that on a Sunday evening,” she said.
“I would love to be good at it and I would love to have the time to do it but I would not be a good candidate.”

Byrne quit RTÉ in October, ending her 15-year career there. Shortly after signing off on Radio 1, it was announced Byrne would join Newstalk to present The Claire Byrne Show.
Opening up about her exit from her €280,000-a-year role at RTÉ , she said: “It was something that I had to think long and hard about, because I was there for a long time.”
She added: “I feel brave in doing it because there are some people who think, ‘Oh, she left RTÉ, why would you do that?’ But I have no regrets about it.
“I enjoyed my time there, but this really has been reinvigorating coming here. So it was the right call for me to make at the right time.”
