Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street fans think they’ve uncovered a massive spoiler as part of the ITV soap’s upcoming murder-mystery storyline. Five characters are in danger as part of the brand-new arc, which will see one character depart Weatherfield.

The potential victims include Carl Webster, Theo Silverton, Jodie Ramsey, Megan Walsh and Maggie Driscoll, with a flash-forward sequence that aired earlier this year showing Betsy Swain being questioned by police after discovering a body.

The rumour mill is in full swing as fans have scoured each episode for clues as to who will meet their untimely demise, and they’ve been picking apart a new post on Instagram from actor Jonathan Howard, who plays Carl.

In a photo, Howard posed alongside co-stars Alan Halsall, Vinta Morgan and Michael Le Vell, who portray Tyrone Dobbs, Ronnie Bailey and Kevin Webster respectively. In the caption, he wrote: “Sun finally came out to say hello on the cobbles today…”

Fans in the comment section speculated that this means Carl isn’t the murder victim as the snap suggests he is still filming scenes for the soap, with one writing: “Well I’m guessing Carl doesn’t die!! Spoiler alert lol.”

Another posted: “Ooo…Carl ain’t the one ending up 💀 on the 23rd then…,” while a third commented: “Oh, so one less murder victim suspect. I’m pleased 👏.” However, seeing as nothing has yet been confirmed, one fan supposed that it could be a red herring.

Recent scenes in the soap have seen Carl manipulate his mother, Debbie, into giving him money in order to pay off a debt. He secured the funds, but was found chasing his tail as it was revealed that he had asked for more than he owed.

Debbie said that she was done with Carl as a result of his latest deceit, but the schemer has taken things one step further as he prepares to blackmail his own flesh and blood. Debbie’s husband Ronnie, however, isn’t in the mood to let Carl get away with it.

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
