Seven months on from her dreamy wedding in Portugal, RTÉ’s Valerie Wheeler has another reason to celebrate: she’s expecting her first child!
The Sunday Game host and her husband, Gavin Young, announced their baby news by saying this is a ‘new chapter we’ve been dreaming of.’
Posting a snap of themselves in the Maldives, which is where they went on their honeymoon, the soon-to-be mum-and-dad can be seen beaming smiles as they hold up their scan photos.

In front of them in the sand, the couple, who have been together since the summer of 2022 and got engaged in New York in 2024, wrote out ‘baby Young 2026’.
Dozens of people sent their congratulations, with Kayleigh Trappe writing, ‘massive congratulations to you both.
Influencer Chloe Koyce added: ‘Finally, the news is out, I could burst with excitement. Ahhh gonna be an aunty!’

Valerie and Gavin said I Do last September, surrounded by their family and friends in a sun-soaked ceremony hosted in Portugal.
The journalist wore an elegant white gown with a slight train and long veil to match, while her bridesmaids all wore yellow.
Not much is known about how Valerie and Gavin, who works as a pro golf coach in Limerick, first crossed paths, but she has previously praised him for helping her work on her golf skills.
When Valerie took part in a campaign to encourage women to get involved in the sport in 2023, she said: ”I had to show a bit of interest since last July.

‘I started seeing this guy and we’ve been together since, and he’s a golf pro in a club here in Limerick.
‘All he does all day, every day is teach golf. So when this opportunity came around, he was delighted, saying, “I can be your coach!” He’s been coaching me- he’s very patient with me at the moment.’
