West Ham to win

This is a genuine ‘must-win’ game for West Ham as they fight to stay in the Premier League for next season. With seven games remaining, they are just a point behind 17th placed Tottenham, and this tie provides an ideal chance to ramp up the pressure on Spurs and Nottingham Forest.

Wolves’ fate has been sealed for some time, despite Rob Edwards’ galvanising efforts, and their relegation is just waiting to be mathematically sealed. Home form is always key in any relegation battle, and West Ham have looked strong at the London Stadium of late with an unbeaten run of four league games, including solid draws against Manchester United and Manchester City.

Wolves have not won away from home in the Premier League this season, and three key points for Nuno keeps West Ham right in the pack with Spurs and Forest, in what could be one of the tightest survival races for years.

Jarrod Bowen to score

Jarrod Bowen missed his penalty in the FA Cup shootout loss to Leeds, but he remains West Ham’s talisman, with the captain their top Premier League scorer this season on eight goals.

He will be aiming for double figures in the top-flight, for the third season running, and he could do with a confidence boosting goal on Friday night. The England international has not scored a league goal in over two months, but he has six career goals against Wolves, and this is a perfect shot to get back on the goal trail.

Joao Gomes 3+ foul involvements

Given what’s at stake, this game is almost certain to be a real scrap, with midfield the key battleground at the London Stadium. Joao Gomes is always in the thick of things for Wolves, with the second most fouls committed in the Premier League this season (56), just behind his Brazilian compatriot Igor Thiago.

He’s also on nine Premier League yellow cards, and a booking here would mean a two-game ban, and an absence from the incoming ties with Leeds and Tottenham. However, you can’t expect anything other than a full-blooded display and he’s racked up three or more foul involvements in his last three starts.

Mateus Fernandes 3+ foul involvements

Up against Gomes is likely to be West Ham enforcer Mateus Fernandes. Only the ever-present Bowen has started more league games than the former Southampton man (28) as part of a solid debut campaign with the Hammers.

The Portugal star is certainly not afraid to put his foot in where needed, with six Premier League bookings this season, and 41 fouls given away. Each of his last five top-flight appearances have featured three or more foul involvements and a few tangles with Gomes could see him easily hit that mark again.
