Settled conditions are expected to return through the weekend following a spell of low pressure, Met Eireann has forecast.

This morning, rain will clear eastwards with sunshine and showers following for the rest of today. Some of the showers will be heavy or prolonged with a chance of thunder, hail and spot flooding, especially over the western half of the country. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees are forecast with moderate to fresh south to southwest winds, strong near south and west coasts.

Tonight, showers will continue, some heavy and merging to longer spells at times especially in the west and north. Showers will gradually ease overnight and become more isolated by morning. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees are forecast in moderate to fresh and gusty southwest winds.

Thursday will start off with sunny spells and well scattered showers. Cloud will build from the southwest. Rain and drizzle will spread northeastwards through the late afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees are forecast in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

Here is Met Eireann’s national outlook for the coming days:

Overview

“Low pressure dominates with rain and showers at first and rather breezy at times. Becoming more settled through the weekend.”

Thursday night

“Mostly cloudy with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 11 degrees in moderate, occasionally fresh, south to southeast winds.”

Friday

“Cloud and rain will clear eastwards early on with sunny spells and scattered showers following. Some of the showers will be heavy and thundery, possibly merging to longer spells of rain at times through the day. Breezy too with fresh and gusty southwest winds developing, and highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees.”

Friday night

“Scattered showers will become confined to the northwest with clear spells and a largely dry night elsewhere. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees in light to moderate southwest to west breezes.”

Saturday

“Spells of sunshine and well scattered showers, becoming more isolated later in the day. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees in light to moderate west to northwest breezes.”

Sunday

“Mostly dry with variable amounts of cloud and sunshine and the odd light shower. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly light southeasterly or variable breezes.”

Further outlook

“Current indications show mostly settled conditions continuing for early next week with spells of sunshine and possibly an increase in temperatures.”
