A mental health assessment has been ordered for a man who called a magistrate a “murderer” during a disturbing court appearance.
The man, who cannot be named and is charged with contravening a domestic violence order, appeared agitated on the screen via videolink in Hervey Bay Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Lashing out at Magistrate Trinity McGarvie, he demanded to speak to a new magistrate and bizarrely claimed he could “see the blood on (her) hands.”
He also could be heard saying that “Jesus Christ is back” and calling Ms McGarvie a “corrupt dog” while pacing around the small room.
A day prior the man had told the court he had not been offered “a drink of water” while in custody.
“I demand proper legal representation,” he said when questioned about his case again on Tuesday.
Ms McGarvie remained composed and persisted in asking the man questions about his proceedings until it was declared he was not in the right state of mind to appear in court.
She ordered that the defendant be assessed under the mental health act and that arrangements be made for him to seek legal representation before his next court appearance on April 15.
