Wexford General Hospital
There was a large multi-agency response at a Wexford housing estate on Wednesday afternoon, as a man’s body was removed from a house.
Gardaí, the National Ambulance Service and Wexford Fire Service all responded to a scene at Belvedere Grove and gained access to a house where they uncovered the body of a male, aged in his 60s.
It is reported that the man’s remains had lain undiscovered for quite some time.
The scene was immediately cordoned off and a full examination was carried out, with locals reporting that men in “hazmat” or boiler suits were seen emerging from the property.
A garda source confirmed that a call came in at 1.40 p.m. from a concerned neighbour, requesting that gardaí carry out a welfare check at the man’s house. They were joined by the National Ambulance Service and Wexford Fire Service who assisted with the removal of the man’s remains.
A forensic examination was carried out at the property before the man’s remains were taken to University Hospital Waterford for a full post-mortem.
In a statement, Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of a male in a domestic residence in the Townparks area of Wexford town, Co. Wexford this afternoon Wednesday, April 15.
“The male’s body has been removed from the scene. A post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
“The results of the examination will determine the course of the Garda investigation. The coroner has been notified and investigations are ongoing.”
