Employees of BD Enniscorthy presented the cheque to Futures in Mind.
An Enniscorthy branch of a large company has gone out of their way to raise €20,097.46 to a mental health support charity.
BD, which is currently Enniscorthy’s largest employer with 500 employees, is a major manufacturing and research facility located on the Old Dublin Road.
The facility specialises in the design and production of minimally invasive medical devices including Angioplasty devices used to treat peripheral and coronary artery disease. The site also manufactures introducer sheaths, embolization devices, AV fistula systems, and specialized hemostat fabrics, while also producing products for vascular intervention and dialysis care.
Every year the branch chooses a charity to support and to raise funds for through a variety of events including sports activities, social nights, quizzes and cake sales.
This year they chose Futures in Mind – a community-based, volunteer-driven charity in Ireland dedicated to suicide prevention, mental health awareness, and bereavement support that is based in Gorey, Co. Wexford.
Founded in 2012 by a group of individuals who had lost loved ones to suicide, the organization aims to save lives by breaking down the stigma associated with mental health.
The charity emphasised how the generous donation will positively impact on those who avail of their services.
“This incredible support will help Futures in Mind provide more than 280 hours of free counselling to people in our community who are struggling with mental health. Because of their kindness more people will be able to access vital mental health support when they need it most,” they said.
“They have shown extraordinary generosity and community spirit,” they added.
