The crash, which involved two vehicles, took place on the Bellews Bridge Road in Castletown in Dundalk shortly after 1:45pm on Wednesday. The driver and sole occupant of one of the cars, a woman aged in her 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her body was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where a post-mortem will take place. In a tribute, one pal wrote: “May the angels of heaven keep you in their arms safe forever” before adding “going to miss you”.
