Irish Rail has everything in place to resume a catering service on its Kerry to Dublin train service – but the Department of Transport is refusing to fund it.
That’s according to spokesman for Rail Users Ireland, Mark Gleeson, who says Irish Rail has a contractor in place, and has also nominated a supplier.
However, he claims the service can’t resume any time soon without the go-ahead from the Department.
There’s been no catering service on the trains leaving Kerry for Dublin since the Covid pandemic; it’s available at some point between Cork and Dublin, but not on any line to or from Kerry as far as Mallow.
