DELGANY DEADLINE has stepped forward with each run since going over fences and can gain a second win in this sphere. The Dan Skelton-trained six-year-old has improved since going over fences, and should appreciate the shorter trip having just been run out of it late on here last time out. Begin The Luck appeals as the biggest threat, though the well-handicapped five-time course winner Alto Alto should not be discounted, especially if reverting to more positive tactics.
It’ll be interesting to see what the market makes of the Skelton pair, neither of whom are without fault, but LORIKO has achieved more this season and may get the better of stable debutant Ballyeaston with cheekpieces applied for the first time. The last-named has his first start since appearing to throw away victory at Haydock last month for Fergal O’Brien. Kempton runner-up Shutfrontdoor looks the pick of the Gary & Josh Moore pair and the only other danger (for all Harry Cobden is an interesting booking on Moon Monarch).
The Martin Keighley-trained TURNDLIGHTSDOWNLOW hasn’t yet put a foot wrong in handicaps and can gain a deserved third win of the season on his return to a staying trip. With this longer distance likely to be within range around this tight track, East India Express remains on an eye-catching mark and is worth another chance to build on his Windsor effort having been backed into favouritism for the Martin Pipe last time, whilst there could still be more to come from the progressive Skelton-trained Top Guy. Money for his well-treated stablemate Tranquil Sea would look interesting, while Kamsinas and Elysian Knight (back over hurdles) are also of interest. With recent winners Moveit Like Minnie and Roger Pol also in the mix, this looks the trickiest puzzle on the card.
A host of Plumpton specialists to choose from here, including C&D scorer LUMI PLUGIN who advanced his form when runner-up to Es Perfecto at Kempton last time and, in the hope he jumps better here, he’s taken to go one better. Last year’s winner Sea Invasion is the main danger now back down to that winning mark, although strong performances from bottom-weight Roe And Co (bled last time but very progressive previously) and Northern Poet (visored first time) who came alive last spring would come as no surprise.
SHALFA can defy a 3 Ib rise for her recent course success and follow up. Lydia Richards has a £33.50 profit to a £1 level stake when having only one runner on the card and she looks to have found a very winnable race for this in-form seven-year-old. Market House (visor tried for the first time) and recent Stratford winner Lord Of The Glance are dangers, while it would be no surprise to see Answer That improve considerably on handicap debut. Similar comments apply to Alibey if connections have found a way to curb her headstrong tendencies.
NOTNOWLINDA looks to be building up to something, and she gets the vote with Harry Skelton back aboard for the first time since she went close at Market Rasen two springs ago. Goodwin may prove the main danger given both his and his trainer’s record at this course, though he could face stiff competition for the lead from Hecouldbetheone which may hamper the chances of both. In contrast, a strong pace would suit The Bellhop who appeared unsuited by the emphasis on speed when fourth at Ascot last time out. Course winner Alien Storm looks the pick of the remainder now on a fair mark back over hurdles.
The betting should prove highly informative but the vote goes to Anthony Honeyball’s winning pointer POSH CHICK who shaped well when a debut second in a Wincanton bumper and can go one better at the chief expense of stablemate Steal A Glance who is taken to bounce back from an underwhelming seventh at the same track. Newcomers Silver Whisper and Cheese could also play a part, especially if the market speaks in their favour, with the former’s trainer Ben Clarke’s horses running well at present. Mirabello is surely better than her debut (beaten 115 lengths) given she started at 9/2, but her pedigree (dam a half-sister to Cogry) suggests that she may need more time.
