Evelyn Igharo, 23-year-old female boxer from the Clann Naofa Boxing Academy Muirhevnamor in Dundalk will be in action at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil this coming week.

Igharo discovered boxing in her local club at just seven years old and in the following years, while dedicated to her training and all competitions, she also excelled academically at St Joseph’s National School in Muirhevnamor and O’Fiaich College in Dundalk before attending DkIT.

Through her academic journey, her team of coaches and fellow athletes from Clann Naofa Boxing Academy, supported and encouraged her to remain in education. Somehow, this determined young woman managed to juggle sport and education and give 100pc to both.

Her unwavering dedication to both boxing and learning is simply inspirational, the focus has remained steadfast in her daily life.

Evelyn has won 19 Irish titles, the honour of representing Ireland at an international level on numerous occasions. Earlier this year she represented Ireland at the 77th International Boxing Tournament in Strandja, Sofia Bulgaria.

In preparation for the latest competition in Brazil, Evelyn has fully committed to participate in a multi-national training camp before competition commencement – this high intensity programme is for elite athletes only.

The strength of character and drive that Evelyn has shown along her life path has simply blown away the coaches and trainers at Clann Naofa Boxing Academy and they could not be prouder. Eyelyn is a beacon of hope and an inspiration for all young boxers coming behind her, particularly the female crew.

The World Boxing Cup in Brazil begins on Monday April 20 and the finals will be held on April 27.
