PLANS have been revealed to pedestrianise two laneways in Limerick city centre.

The local authority has launched a public consultation process on its proposals to install bollards at Limerick Lane, off Little Catherine Street and a section of Glentworth Mews, off Catherine Street.

In each case, the council says the proposal to restrict traffic access is to “allow for safer transition by members of the public and to allow for occasional animation within the laneway.”

As required by law, separate public notices have been published under the provisions of the Road Traffic Act 1994 and the Public Transportation Regulation Act 2009.

If approved, the entirety of Limerick Lane will be closed to traffic 24 hours a day while a 55 metre section of Glentworth Mews will also be closed off.

Details drawings and further details are available for inspection in the public display area at both City Hall, Merchant’s Quay and County Hall in Dooradoyle.

They are also available to view online via the MyPoint portal.

As part of the public consultation process, submissions and observations can be made from members of the public and other stakeholders.

In each case, the deadline for receipt of any submissions is during May.
