When a show features Siobhan Finneran, you know you’re in for a treat. This searing drama sees Siobhan take on the role of a woman facing her worst nightmare – the murder of her child. The six-part series, which first aired in 2019, is based on the real-life story of Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher (Martin Freeman) who was tasked with leading the inquiry into the disappearance of 22-year-old Sian O’Callaghan. While he did indeed catch the man who killed both her and another young woman, he breached police procedure and protocol in the process – a decision that cost him his career. Speaking of playing Sian’s mother Elaine, Siobhan told ITV: “As a parent I can’t think of anything worse. Your daughter has gone out on a night out with friends and then you never see her again. Unchosen

If you’re a fan of Happy Valley but are looking to sink your teeth into something a bit darker, then Unchosen is the series for you. The series explores the world of a fictional religious cult and how one woman, devoted wife and mother Rosie (Molly Windsor), attempts to escape it. Rosie lives in an isolated Christian community with her husband, Adam (Asa Butterfield), and their daughter. but the strict and segregated life she lives suddenly changes when escaped prisoner Sam (Fra Fee) stumbles upon the community. Siobhan plays Mrs. Phillips, the loyal wife of cult leader Mr Phillips (Christopher Eccleston) and she’s as fantastic as you’d hope. Unchosen is available to watch now on Netflix.
The Loch

One for detective drama fans, The Loch follows Siobhan and Laura Fraser as hard-working detective duo, Lauren Quigley and Annie Redford, who are tasked with hunting down a sadistic serial killer on the shores of Scotland’s Loch Ness. When local man Niall Swift’s body is found at the foot of Carn Mohr Mountain and a human heart on the loch shore, Lauren is brought in to help Annie – and it’s far from simple. Almost every local in the tight-knit community comes under suspicion, causing tension aplenty. The Loch is available to watch now on Netflix and ITVX.
Protection

One of ITV’s best dramas of 2025, Siobhan’s Detective Inspector Liz Nyles (Siobhan) finds herself caught in a security breach in her high-stakes witness protection unit. She’s also, unfortunately, caught in an affair with her colleague, which makes her job of finding out who’s behind it all the harder. What makes the series even more gripping is the fact that it’s based on the first-hand experiences of a seasoned witness protection officer. Protection is available to watch now on ITVX.
The Moorside

You know you’re in for a good watch when you get Siobhan, Sheridan Smith and Gemma Whelan together in one series. The two-parter is based on the 2008 kidnapping of nine-year-old Shannon Matthews, with the drama focusing on the panicked community’s search efforts, the friendship among the local women and the betrayal felt when it’s revealed that Shannon’s mother Karen Matthews had been an accomplice in her own daughter’s kidnapping. The gripping story is told through the eyes of concerned community member Julie Bushby (Sheridan Smith) and stars Siobhan as DC Christine Freeman and Gemma Whelan as Karen Matthews. The Moorside is available to watch now on Disney+ and ITVX.
Apparitions

While Apparitions is classified as a drama, the BBC series dabbles in the supernatural. Originally released in 2008, Martin Shaw plays Catholic priest Father Jacob, who investigates sainthood miracles and soon becomes involved in high-stakes exorcisms. Siobhan is brilliant as Sister Ruth, a committed and sharp nun sent from Rome to spy on Father Jacob and report back on his activities. A spooky, superbly acted series. Apparitions is available to watch now on Prime Video.
Time
BBC
Time features the brilliant trio of Siobhan, Stephen Graham and Sean Bean – and what a combination it is. A raw portrayal of the British prison system, series one stars Stephen as an ethical prison officer, Sean Bean as a guilt-ridden teacher and Siobhan as prison chaplain, Marie-Louise O’Dell. While each series focuses on a different prison, Siobhan appears as a recurring character in all three. As prison chaplain, Marie-Louise provides support to the inmates and is what Siobhan calls a “glimmer of hope” – but in the upcoming third instalment, we’ll find her struggling with a loss of faith in it all while working young offenders’ institution.
