Two-time All-Ireland winner with Kilkenny, Richie Power snr has heavily criticised the decision not to play Kilkenny’s two Leinster Championship matches at minor and senior levels this weekend as a double header in UPMC Nowlan Park.
As it stands, the minors will play Galway at 1pm at Kilkenny GAA HQ, followed by the seniors match against Wexford over five hours later at 6.30pm.
“There’s no way that should be allowed to happen in my eyes. It’s totally, totally wrong on parents and Kilkenny supporters,” Power told Community Radio Kilkenny City.
“It’s crazy fixturing,” he continued. “Are they trying to stop genuine people who give their lives to clubs and bring kids to matches all over the country?”
“There’s no way it should be allowed. Whatever committee that brought in this thing that they don’t want young lads playing before senior matches, it’s crazy stuff,” he added, re-affirming his strong view that’s it “ridiculous.”
