A new ‘Jungle Legend’ is set to be crowned on Friday night as the live final of I’m A Celebrity… South Africa takes place in London.
Football manager Harry Redknapp, actor and comedian Craig Charles, Emmerdale star Adam Thomas and Olympic legend Sir Mo Farah are the final four in the running for the jungle crown with the winner set to be named tonight, more than six months on from when the spin-off series was originally recorded in South Africa.
It has been a series full of drama and controversy, largely involving Thomas, former Premier League footballer Jimmy Bullard and two-time boxing world champion David Haye.
The actor was involved in a furious spat with Bullard in shocking scenes that were broadcast on ITV earlier this week, while he also clashed with Haye as the show became embroiled in a ‘bullying’ row.
Thomas has since admitted that he is now in therapy after his feud with Haye, who accused the Waterloo Road star of avoiding trials and lacking “mental strength” when he complained that he was feeling unwell.
The former boxer has defended his comments, saying that the campmates were “paid handsomely every single day” and Thomas complaining that it was “the hardest thing he’s ever been through… is not a frequency I recognise”.
Just how handsomely the cast were paid is unclear, with the exact fees not made public, but Haye has offered some indication of the salaries on offer.
“It’s probably £20,000-25,000 per day for being in that jungle,” he told The Sun.
“So to get up and do some trial or doing whatever… How is that hard? It’s not hard. I’ve had really hard fights for no money whatsoever.”
With Haye lasting 11 days on the show, he is likely to have been paid between £220,000 and £275,000 for his stint.
However, most series see campmates paid different rates, and this appears to have been the case again this year with Bullard reportedly earning less than at least one other campmate.
According to The Sun, the former Wigan Athletic and Fulham midfielder was left “furious” after discovering he was on less money than ex-Tottenham Hotspur and Portsmouth boss Redknapp for the series, having expected to be receiving the same fee.
During their first stints in the jungle, in 2014 and 2018 respectively, Bullard was paid £100,000 but Redknapp was paid a whopping £500,000 to make him one of the highest-paid contestants ever.
While their exact salaries for South Africa are yet to be revealed, here’s how much each of the campmates were reportedly paid first time around:
