A brother of slain gangster Gary Hutch has been spotted paying his respects at his grave – as today marks 10 years since his murder.
Convicted killer Derek ‘Del Boy’ Hutch was seen at the grave of his brother in Glasnevin Cemetery on Wednesday, 10 years on from the brutal killing in Spain that ignited the Kinahan Hutch feud.
Volatile criminal Del Boy, 39, who was freed from prison in 2021 after serving time for manslaughter and armed robbery, was seen with a relative at the grave – as the Hutch mob and its associates are still recovering from a decade of senseless violence that saw 18 men shot dead.

Del Boy himself was locked up in Dublin’s Wheatfield prison during the time in which his brothers, father and other relatives became top targets for the Kinahan cartel following the Regency Hotel shooting in February 2016. At the time he was segregated from potential enemies during that dangerous period – as he served out his 16-year sentence for a May 2009 armed robbery, during which his pal Gareth Molloy was shot dead by Gardaí. He was also serving time for the manslaughter of Barry McGuire, who he stabbed to death during an altercation on St Stephen’s Day 2007.

In the meantime, his own father ‘Patsy’ – a brother of veteran gangland figure Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch – and his brother Patrick became the top targets of the Kinahan cartel, who blamed them for the Regency murder of their associate David Byrne.
The Hutch mob struck back at the Regency on February 5, 2016, in revenge for the murder of Gary, 34, – who was blasted to death in Spain on this day ten years ago. Gary Hutch was at that time a senior member of the Kinahan cartel – but he had fallen foul of his boss Daniel Kinahan, who he had tried to have killed the previous year. Gary Hutch facilitated the attempt to kill Kinahan that instead saw the wrong man shot and injured – innocent boxer Jamie Moore.

Despite reaching a financial settlement with the Hutches, Kinahan ordered gunman James Quinn to shoot and kill Gary in September 2015. That killing sparked the ire of the Hutch mob – which began plotting its revenge against Kinahan. In the meantime, the Kinahans attempted and failed to kill ‘The Monk’ at a bar in Lanzarote that December.
Following that attempt, senior members of the Hutch mob organised the hit at the Regency – in a brazen attempt to murder Daniel Kinahan during a boxing weigh-in event. Hutch gang members – dressed as fake ERU Gardaí and armed with AK47 rifles – stormed the crowded event and failed to locate Kinahan, instead shooting dead his senior lieutenant, David Byrne, in the reception area of the hotel.
A gunman dressed in drag and another gunman wearing a ‘Flat Cap’ were also involved in the hit – with the latter being identified as the now deceased Kevin Murray. The gunman in drag was accused of being Gary Hutch’s brother Patrick – who was charged and went on trial before the Special Criminal Court.
However, that massive trial sensationally collapsed in 2019 when lead investigator Detective Chief Superintendent Colm Fox took his own life in tragic circumstances at Ballymun Garda Station. Patrick Hutch, who denied being the gunman, walked free – and subsequently kept his head down amid threats to his life.

During the 2023 trial of Gerry Hutch – who was ultimately acquitted of the murder of the murder of David Byrne – the Special Criminal Court heard evidence that Gary Hutch’s father Patsy may have planned the Regency Hotel shooting itself.
After finding his brother Gerry not guilty of Byrne’s murder, respected Judge Tara Burns told the Special Criminal Court that “a reasonable possibility arises on the evidence that the Regency was planned by Patsy Hutch and that Gerard Hutch stepped in, as head of the family, to attempt to sort out the aftermath”.

Ms Justice Burns also went further in her scathing judgement, saying that the court was satisfied that Patsy, who is not charged with any offence, “was centrally involved” in the movement of the three AK47 rifles that were used in the Regency, when they were given to IRA man Shane Rowan on March 9, 2016.
However, since then it has emerged that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) indicated to Gardaí that no further charges were going to be brought in connection with the Regency Hotel killing. Patsy Hutch has never had to face any of the accusations levelled against him in the Special Criminal Court.
The bloody Kinahan Hutch feud, which was sparked by his son’s killing, went on to see 17 more men murdered – including Patsy’s brother Eddie, nephews Gareth, Derek Coakley Hutch and many innocent men.

The feud also saw innocent dad of two Noel ‘Duck Egg’ Kirwan shot dead after he had been merely pictured with ‘The Monk’ at Eddie Hutch’s funeral, as well as the veteran gangster’s friend, Noel ‘Kingsize’ Duggan.
Innocent Dublin city council worker Trevor O’Neill was another victim – killed in a horrific case of mistaken identity by a gunman targeting Jonathan Hutch on the island of Majorca in August 2016. Another innocent man – homeless Dubliner Martin O’Rourke – was also shot dead in the capital in April 2016 after a gunman was targeting a Hutch associate in the area.
