Plans lodged to transform landmark building in Longford town

A Longford business has submitted plans to convert a former pub into a retail/commercial space.

Cassidy Blinds Ltd has lodged an application seeking permission for the change of use of the ground floor of The Corner House at 1 Dublin Street, along with the erection of a new shopfront, alterations to the existing facades, and all ancillary site works.

The file is currently at the pre-validation stage, meaning the application has been submitted but not yet formally accepted by the planning authority.

The Corner House is a landmark town centre building with historical significance as it once served as a ticket office for the White Star Line, the company best known for owning the Titanic.

The building was brought to the market late last year with an asking price of €250,000 and was quickly snapped up.

Planning applicants Cassidy Blinds Ltd, the director of which is listed as Shane Cassidy with a business address of Ballagh Road, Stonepark, Longford, is cited on the application as being the owners of the Corner House.

If the application is formally accepted by the planning authority, a decision is expected to be returned by June 16.
