An Ireland South MEP has described the toll barriers on the country’s roads as ‘archaic’.
MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú has called for the booths to be replaced with a free-flowing system, which is currently only on the M50.
She has strongly criticised the need for vehicles to queue at toll booths every day.
The Transport Committee MEP said forcing traffic to stop is wasting fuel, causing delays, and resulting in minor accidents.
She says Ireland is far behind its EU counterparts, who are moving towards a free-flowing toll system.
