Survivor Season 48 Week 8 Recap
The episode begins with the castaways returning to camp after tribal council. There is fallout after Rick’s fake idol discovery. Jonathan says this will backfire on him. Rick is glad to get back to his chaotic self. He says this was the most fun he’s had at tribal council this season. Later, Rick reveals the truth to Emily that he planted a fake idol at tribal council. Emily admits in her confessional that she’s angry at Rick for putting a target on their alliance. Meanwhile, Stephenie is upset her allies Coach and Chrissy were voted out. She still has Joe and Jonathan, but she’s ready to take out everyone else.
The next morning, Ozzy and Rizo talk on the hammock. They agree that Rick made a dumb move. Ozzy also believes Stephenie, Jonathan, and Joe are on the outs. Cirie says Rick put a target on his back, which is beneficial for her. Cirie thinks she’s in a good spot as she has connections with everyone on the tribe. She’s glad she has options.
Meanwhile, Jonathan is looking for a lifeline after losing two close allies. He reaches out to Aubry. Aubry admits she wants to distance herself from Rick. Aubry doubts Jonathan has been wanting to play with her, but she realizes he needs her. She sees an opportunity working with Jonathan too.
Joe and Rick talk to clear the air. Joe denies wanting to vote for Rick, but Rick knows it’s not true. Rick thinks he saved himself by “finding” the idol at tribal council, but Joe says it didn’t change anything. Meanwhile, Christian and Emily talk about Rick. They say he’s a huge target, and Christian wants to do damage control with Jonathan and Stephenie. He lied to them about the vote last time. Christian approaches them, and Stephenie says she’s worried she and Jonathan are next to be voted out. Jonathan is unsure they can trust him.
Christian offers to give them his Shot in the Dark advantage to show his trust in them. In his confessional, Christian says giving his Shot in the Dark to Ozzy ended up working. He’s hoping this will help rebuild trust too. However, after this conversation, Jonathan tells Joe they can get Christian out next. He lets Joe know about Christian’s offer. They can blindside Christian without worrying about him playing his Shot in the Dark advantage.
Christian notices that Ozzy is playing the middle. He shares his theory with Cirie and Rick. He pitches voting for Ozzy or Jonathan at the next tribal council. He doesn’t think Ozzy will see it coming. Cirie has had a good relationship with Christian, but she can’t let him take a shot at one of her closest allies. She pretends to consider these options, but she later tells Ozzy that Christian is gunning for him. Ozzy says Christian is dead to him. Later, Cirie also tells Jonathan that Christian was pitching his name. Jonathan says he should get Christian’s Shot in the Dark advantage and then vote him out right afterwards.
It’s time for the immunity challenge. It’s an endurance challenge. They will hold onto a handlebar that is connected to a bucket with 25% of their pregame body weight. If the bucket falls, then they are out of the challenge. The last person standing will win immunity. Jeff also reveals a twist. He will be taking part in this challenge too. He is offering them a bag of rice. In order to earn the rice, five of them must outlast Jeff in this challenge. They ask if they can negotiate down to four players. He accepts that offer. Jonathan, Joe, Ozzy, and Tiffany volunteer to compete against Jeff. If they outlast him, then they will earn the bag of rice.
The challenge begins. Jeff shares that it was Jimmy Fallon’s idea for Jeff to compete in a challenge. Rizo’s bucket drops first. He’s followed by Emily. Rick drops his bucket next. Cirie drops next. Jeff’s bucket drops next, meaning they earn the bag of rice. Christian drops next. He’s followed by Aubry. Stephenie and Tiffany drop at the same time. Jonathan is the next to drop. It’s now a showdown between Ozzy and Joe. Ozzy drops. Joe wins immunity! Jeff reveals that Joe must now send one person on a Journey. Joe suggests rock paper scissors to determine who goes, which results in Christian going on the Journey.
Tiffany talks to Rick. She tells him he should play his idol if he truly has one. If he doesn’t play it, then he will be voted out. Rick hopes his bluff will help him out since he doesn’t actually have an idol. Meanwhile, Jonathan lets Joe know that Christian is pitching to vote out Ozzy or Jonathan. Joe is ready to vote out Christian after he threw out Jonathan’s name. Jonathan talks to Rizo, Stephenie, and Aubry about voting out Christian. Jonathan is able to get some numbers, but he is worried about Christian getting an advantage at the Journey.
A boat takes Christian to a floating platform out in the ocean. There is a note from Jimmy Fallon. Christian has the chance to win an advantage that lets him cast a vote for another player before tribal council. He’ll need to complete a jigsaw puzzle of the Survivor logo before time runs out. If he fails, then he’ll have to take a sealed note back to camp and read it in front of the other castaways. Christian gets to work on the puzzle, but he doesn’t succeed. He is a few pieces short, and the puzzle is pulled into the ocean. He is clearly disappointed. He takes the sealed note before a boat takes him back to camp.
Christian returns to camp. He calls the sealed envelope his “note of shame.” He reads the note in front of everyone, which reveals that Christian must write his own name at tribal council tonight. Christian hands over his Shot in the Dark to Jonathan. Christian has no choice but to vote tonight, so his Shot in the Dark can’t even be played tonight anyway. Jonathan is eager to vote him out. Jonathan thinks Christian will be added to his list of targets he took out, which includes Dee and Kamilla.
Meanwhile, Emily pitches to Cirie and Tiffany they should vote for Ozzy tonight. Cirie and Tiffany pretend to be open to this idea. After Emily walks away, Cirie says “She gotta go.” Cirie and Tiffany tells Ozzy what Emily said. They agree to vote for Emily tonight. They tell Rizo later, but Rizo says Christian should still be the target tonight. Rizo says Christian is a sitting duck. Tiffany would still rather see Emily voted out. The vote is up in the air as they seemingly cannot get on the same page. Do they still target Christian, or will they flip and vote out Emily instead?
It’s time for tribal council. After discussing the challenge, Christian talks about the Journey. He reveals he must vote for himself tonight. Cirie says it impacts everyone. They can just add votes to Christian, or “they can play Survivor.” Emily adds that no one forced Christian to go on the Journey. It’s all part of the twists and turns of the game.
Ozzy brings up Rick pulling a move at the previous tribal council. Rick tells Jeff he’s playing the idol tonight. Cirie adds that people are unpredictable. If you think you can predict everyone else’s move, then it means you’re likely to be the one in trouble. Emily says they have alliances, but only one person wins the game. How long do they stay loyal before getting blindsided themselves? Tiffany says there could be multiple agendas in play, but no one knows the true plan until the votes are revealed. Afterwards, it’s time for the vote.
We see Christian vote for himself. But how did everyone else vote?
Jeff reads the votes. The first vote is for…
Christian
Rick
Ozzy

Christian is the fourteenth person voted out and the fourth member of the jury. Jonathan hands back Christian’s Shot in the Dark. After Christian gets his torch snuffed, he wishes them well before walking away. And that wraps up tonight’s episode of Survivor 50. Thanks for reading, and come back next week for another live recap.
