Cunningham Taking Pelters For Crazy Take On PSG Vs Bayern Munich

Football fans were served up a real treat on Tuesday evening, with PSG and Bayern Munich producing an all-time classic in their Champions League semi-final first leg clash at the Parc des Princes.

The game was full of remarkable pieces of play, with all nine goals on the night being of the highest quality. PSG would eventually run out as 5-4 winners, having led 5-2 at one stage in the second half.

With the quality of play in the Premier League having dropped off to a frightening degree this season, this fixture was a timely reminder of what top level football is supposed to be. The moments of genius by the likes of Michael Olise, Ousmane Dembele, and Harry Kane were remarkable to watch at times.

In saying that, not everyone seemed to enjoy what unfolded in Paris.

Cunningham has odd take on PSG vs Bayern Munich

While there were nine goals scored in the game between PSG and Bayern Munich, you could not really claim that there were a huge amount of defensive errors over the course of the 90 minutes. Yes, both teams set up in an attacking manner, but the goals were more down to individual quality up front than deficiencies at the back.

However, some feel that the lack of standout defensive passages of play in the game is something that should be considered.

Speaking on Premier Sports, Kenny Cunningham said the game between PSG and Bayern Munich could not be considered a ‘great game’ due to the apparent poor defending on display.

“I think that’s why you’ve got to be careful when you throw out terms like, ‘it was a great game'” 🗣️

I think that’s why you’ve got to be careful when throw out terms like ‘it was a great game’, ‘it was one of the best games I’ve ever seen’.

You just said it wasn’t a great PSG performance, yet you said it was a great game. I think when you start throwing out statements like ‘this is the best game I’ve ever seen’, really both teams need to be at their optimum level collectively from an attacking point of view. Also from a defensive point of view…

The great games have both, that’s what I’m talking about…

By definition it can’t be a great game if you’re having that many mistakes on the pitch. It can’t be.

A great game is when both facets of the game teams are their optimum level. Exactly, of course a 0-0. I would take the Juventus vs AC Milan European Cup final at Old Trafford 0-0 every day of the week.

An absolutely bizarre take, especially when you consider that the game between Juventus and AC Milan back in 2003 is widely considered the worst Champions League final of all-time.

Absolutely dour, depressing, and also, just wrong. Peter Schmeichel said it was the best game he’d ever witnessed in person. It wasn’t a litany of mistakes, it was two attacks playing at the top of their game. There were plenty of good defensive moments too.

Kenny will no doubt be hoping for a tense 0-0 stalemate when the two sides face off in Munich for the second leg next week.

PSG will be viewed as slight favourites to advance to the final after last night’s result, although the second leg will be difficult to predict considering the attacking talent on display in both sides. It’s just a pity that these two sides could not have met in the final.
