American actress Meryl Streep opens up about her connection to Donegal

American actress Meryl Streep has opened up about her connection to Donegal.

Streep made the comments during an interview on the Six O’Clock Show, when asked about her formative memories of Ireland. Referencing her family name, she said: “When I searched down the strain family, it is a very unusual name from Donegal. There aren’t very many of them. Grace Strain married Angus McFadden, and they had Mary McFadden and she married Harry Wolf, that’s my grandmother.”

Meryl visited Donegal during the filming of Dancing at Lughnasa. “I thought it was beautiful,” she said. “And there are a lot of people that look like me up there.”

The actress is known for her versatility and has starred in over 70 films, including Mamma Mia, The Devil Wears Prada, and Mary Poppins.
