For fresh fishy delights and atmosphere, it would be tough to find a better spot than this SoCoDu spot, writes our critic

I promise I haven’t been stalking Bono but, with us both being denizens of SoCoDu, I guess when he’s not jetting around the world he comes down to earth and eats in my local restaurants. This time I was in Cavistons Seafood Restaurant in Glasthule where apparently he’d been the previous Saturday night and was joined in song by the irrepressible Peter Caviston, who’s every bit as much a showman as he is a star of the food world.
Cavistons Food Emporium, having started as a small fish shop in 1948, has led the way in Dublin’s poisson and deli world for what seems like forever. Having been bought for £300 after a hard night’s drinking in the pub across the road by medical student Jim Caviston, he passed the premises to his brother John, and the rest is history.
