A recent colourful May Bush celebration in Co. Wexford had a very special guest of honour.
The May Bush tradition is an old Irish custom observed on April 30 and May 1 to welcome summer, bring good luck, and ward off evil, often described as a summer equivalent to a Christmas tree. The tradition involves decorating a branch or small hawthorn tree (whitethorn) with flowers, ribbons, and coloured eggshells.
