RTE confirms replacement for Late Late Show as it takes summer break

RTÉ One has confirmed what will replace The Late Late Show in its usual Friday night slot this week following the programme’s annual summer break.

The channel will broadcast the film Murder on the Orient Express at 9.35pm in place of the regular Late Late Show slot.

Directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, the film follows renowned detective Hercule Poirot as he investigates a murder aboard the famous Orient Express after the train becomes stranded during a journey through Europe.

The movie also features an all-star cast including Daisy Ridley, Derek Jacobi, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Judi Dench and Penélope Cruz.

A different blockbuster movie is expected to air in the show’s usual Friday night slot each week during the summer break.

RTÉ2 will meanwhile air the musical romance film Cyrano, starring Peter Dinklage, at 9.35pm on Friday night.

The Late Late Show began its annual summer break last Friday, when presenter Patrick Kielty signed off from his third season during a star-studded episode featuring Westlife and Garron Noone.

RTÉ has not yet confirmed when the long-running programme will return to screens following the summer break, while no announcement has been made on whether Patrick Kielty will continue as presenter, with his current contract due to expire.
