Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch is planning his own ‘winning streak’ over a decade after his nephew won big on the hit RTÉ show.

Hutch, who has been described in court as the patriarchal figurehead of the Hutch criminal organisation, is running for a seat in the Dáil in the Dublin Central by-election on Friday, May 22.

The 62-year-old veteran gangland figure is vying for the seat after it was left vacant when Paschal Donohoe announced he was resigning in November last year.

Hutch came close to securing a seat in the 2024 General Election but was pipped at the post by Labour’s Marie Sherlock once transfers were factored in.

The Monk’s new election bid comes just over a decade after his nephew had his own big win on RTÉ’s Winning Streak.

Edward Hutch was represented by his brother, Ross, on the episode of Winning Streak in September 2015 – winning €8,000 in cash prizes and a Toyota Corolla car worth €25,000.

Dubliner Ross told host Sinead Kennedy about his fitness regime in the gym and said hello to his young daughter while on the show.

Unfortunately for Edward Hutch, he was unable to drive his new motor for a while as he was serving a 10 year driving ban when the show aired and his nephew scooped the prizes for him.

Edward Hutch was selected for the gameshow after he sent in his Winning Streak scratch card with three stars.
