The BBC has confirmed the release date for Film Club, the new romantic series starring The White Lotus’ Aimee Lou Wood, Gentleman Jack’s Suranne Jones, House of the Dragon’s Ralph Davis, Adolescence’s Owen Cooper, and Juice’s Nabhaan Rizwan. Luckily, fans haven’t got long to wait.
The show will drop all episodes on iPlayer at 6am on Tuesday 7 October, while the first two episodes will air on BBC Three the same night.
Co-written by Wood and Davis, the show follows best friends Evie and Noa, who spend every Friday night hanging out in Evie’s quirkily decorated garage watching films.

Evie hasn’t left the house in six months due to a “wobble”, but when Noa gets a job on the other side of the country, Evie has a lot to consider – including whether their relationship is just platonic.
Jones stars as Evie’s single mum Suz, Davis plays the film club’s newest member Dominic, while Cooper stars as the annoying neighbour Callum.

Wood explained that she and Davis had been writing Film Club “for the last decade”, and she was over the moon to have the “exceptional” Rizwan and Jones on board.
Jones herself said: “I’ve loved Aimee for a while now and think she is a beautifully real, honest and brilliantly funny talent, so it was no surprise the script she and Ralph Davis have created was the same. It’s smart, sweet and punchy.”
Sex Education star Wood has a strong relationship with BBC Three, as she also has the sitcom Daddy Issues on the channel, which is coming back for a second season soon.
Also starring David Morrissey, the show focuses on a dysfunctional father and daughter duo who end up living in a flat-share together when times get tough.

This year also saw Wood reach a new level of international popularity as part of The White Lotus season 3 cast. However, she became the target of a Saturday Night Live parody that she called out for singling her out and being “mean”.
“I have big gap teeth not bad teeth. I don’t mind caricature – I understand that’s what SNL is,” she wrote. “But the rest of the sketch was punching up and I/Chelsea was the only one punched down on.”
Film Club premieres on BBC iPlayer and BBC Three on 7 October.
