An armed robber made off with a sum of cash from a small, family-owned store in a Cork Harbour community yesterday afternoon. It was the second armed robbery in Cork in a matter of days.
The Shamrock Store in Passage West – a popular local store familiar to locals and day-trippers looking for ice-creams and sweets – was the target of a lone thief who entered the premises at around 5pm yesterday (Monday) afternoon. The armed robber threatened a member of staff and grabbed a small sum of money before making off. Gardai are understood to be examining CCTV footage from the store but they are also hoping that people in the area – and it would have been a busy period on Monday around 5pm – may have seen something or caught something on dash-cam or CCTV.
It’s the second armed robbery in Cork in a matter of days, after a lone raider took a sum of money from the Togher Brance of the Lough Credit Union on Friday, forcing the temporary closure of the branch.
On this latest incident, Gardai said: “Gardaí were alerted following a robbery from a retail store in Passage West, Co Cork on Monday 17th May 2026. Shortly after 5pm, a lone male armed with a firearm entered the premises and threatened a staff member before leaving the scene with a sum of cash.
No shots were discharged. Investigations are ongoing.”
