Tributes have poured in for a young Spanish woman who was tragically killed after being hit by a car over the weekend.
Belén Arana Nuñez, a 23-year-old philologist from Spain who had been living in Greystones, sadly lost her life after she was struck by a car at around 11:50pm on the N11 Bray Road in Loughlinstown, Dublin last Saturday.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene after receiving reports that a pedestrian was struck by a car. Despite the best efforts of the medical personnel, Belen, the pedestrian, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Belén was one of four people to lose their lives on Irish roads over the weekend.
Three days of mourning were declared in the city of Trebujena in Spain following the tragic news of her passing, with tributes pouring in the comments for the young woman.
Trebujena Town Hall wrote in a post on social media: “The Trebujena City Council decrees three days of official mourning in the municipality for the death of the neighbor Belén Arana Nuñez on Saturday, May 16.
“During these three days the flags of municipal buildings will fly at half-mast as a symbol of mourning. From the city hall we convey once again our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Belen. Rest in peace.”
One mourner shared in the comments: “How unfair is life, Belen, fly high, wherever you are they will enjoy your eternal smile and sympathy. So much pain, so sorry. My deepest condolences to all her family and friends.”
Another penned: “There are no words for such a great sorrow. Family and friends I send you a huge hug and all my love in these hard times. Belen, fly high”.
