The wonders of nature can still be seen in our cities – if you look closely enough.
In the second episode of the wildlife series Back From The Brink on RTÉ1 tomorrow at 6.30pm, we catch a glimpse of that in Cork city.
A pair of peregrine falcons named Macheda and Solomon are living the high life atop St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, helped to nest by the conservation efforts of Sam Bayley of the National Parks & Wildlife Service, and Alan McCarthy of Birdwatch Ireland.
In the episode, we see the next generation arrive as a chick is hatched.
Pupils from the nearby St. Marie’s of the Isle National School keep a close eye on camera footage which shows the nest’s comings and goings, as the chick, named Hope by the children, prepares to fly the coop.
Meanwhile, in Slovenia, Derek Mooney meets a team of botanists from University of Ljubljana Gardens who joined forces with the city council to transform bus shelter roofs into roof gardens.
