A MAN is being questioned by gardai following a significant drugs seizure in County Limerick

Around 22.5kgs of suspected herbal cannabis was discovered during an intelligence-led operation which was carried out on Friday afternoon.

The location of the operation has not been disclosed publicly but gardai have confirmed it involved members of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, the Limerick Divisional Drug Unit and Revenue Customs Service.

“One male, aged in his 30s, was arrested by An Garda Síochána and is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 in a garda station in Co. Limerick,” said a spokesperson.

Separately, cannabis worth around €800,000 has been seized during a search operation in Dublin.

Gardai say 20kg of suspected herbal cannabis, worth approximately €400,000 was found in west Dublin during an “intelligence-led operation” involving members from drugs and organised crime squads.

The Revenue Customs Service also took part.

In a follow-up search in the same part of Dublin, another 20kgs of the drug, also worth around €400,000, was seized.

A man, in his 30s, was arrested and is detained at a garda station in Dublin.

Investigations into the seizures in Limerick and Dublin are ongoing.
