A teenager is in an induced coma in hospital after thugs dropped a block on his head in a targeted attack.
The teenage boy, understood to be aged in his teens, was found in an unresponsive state and with significant head injuries on the Tolka Valley Road in Finglas, Dublin, on Sunday afternoon.
He was rushed to Dublin’s Beaumont Hospital – where it is understood he is in an induced coma and in a serious condition.
Sources say criminals are suspected to have lured the teenager to the area, where they then attacked him, dropping a suspected cinder block onto his head at one point.
It is understood that those responsible claimed the victim was behind an attempted break-in in the area that occurred in the days before the incident.
Gardai have evidence that the victim suffered serious blunt-force trauma – but have yet to recover and examine the suspected weapon. Sources also say that although the teen was seriously injured – there are hopes he may survive – albeit with life-altering injuries.
Sources say a violent gang were motivated by revenge and blamed the teen for the alleged attempted break-in. It is also feared that the brutal assault was filmed.
Sources say the attack also follows another assault which occurred in the area the day before. In that incident another young man – understood to be known to the victim, was also assaulted.
There are now fears of further reprisals amid a local row between dangerous young thugs in the area. There remain grave fears for the welfare of the critically injured teenager – who gardai have described as a juvenile.
