There’s nothing quite like indulging in a generous helping of fish and chips, but occasionally the cost of this beloved meal can leave diners gobsmacked. One woman left viewers floored when she shared what she paid for her meal in Tenerife, and people were swift to weigh in on the foodie revelation.
Caitlin, who goes by CaitlinCampb on TikTok, had previously documented her experience online, and viewers were left stunned by what unfolded in her video. It’s a dish countless holidaymakers treat themselves to while abroad, with many confessing it’s a firm favourite, but it was the cost of this particular meal that caught some off guard.
It’s not the first occasion a chippy tea has made waves recently, either. Just months ago, an update was shared about highly ranked chippers in Ireland.
In the footage, she explained she had visited The Shamrock Fish ‘n Chippy, a venue that also houses a bar offering live entertainment. Caitlin opted for a classic fish and chips during her visit, and the meal appeared rather appetising.
She also displayed the receipt to viewers, and this is what captured their focus. The meal totalled €12.50 overall, with the cod priced at €8.50 and the chips at €4.00 for a regular portion.
In the comments section, the pricing became the main talking point. They simply couldn’t fathom her bill.

One user was left particularly gobsmacked, writing: “£17 at my local in Scotland for a fish supper now.”
Another queried: “Was it any good?” Caitlin replied, saying: “Yeah.”
A third chimed in: “Went there three times in a week – was awesome. The guy server is really good.”
Meanwhile, a fourth remarked: “We went there last time. In our opinion, the best on the island.”
It remains unclear whether the prices are still the same; however, the spot continues to draw a steady stream of visitors in Tenerife. As for the fish and chips themselves, punters appeared more than satisfied with the quality.

Many will have noticed the cost of a traditional fish and chip supper has crept up considerably in recent years. This is reportedly down to rocketing energy bills needed to run industrial fryers, disappointing potato harvests and the ever-increasing price of seafood.
Fish and chips in Ireland generally range from €10 to €20. The exact price depends heavily on the type of establishment and whether you are eating in a sit-down restaurant or getting a takeaway from a local “chipper”.
A standard portion of cod or haddock and chips typically costs between €10 and €14. Meanwhile, to sit down in pubs and restaurants, expect to pay between €15 and €22, especially in high-traffic or tourist areas like Dublin.
If you want a side like mushy peas, curry sauce or a battered sausage, you’ll likely add €3 to €5 to your bill.
