There are a number of important social welfare dates and payment changes in Ireland next month

There are several key dates and alterations that will affect certain social welfare recipients in June.
These comprise a change to payment dates, the opening of applications for a lump sum payment, and the issuing of a €2,000 grant.
Here are the notices for next month:
Carer’s Support Grant
A €2,000 social welfare grant will be automatically paid to three groups next month. The Carer’s Support Grant is distributed in June each year. If you are providing care for more than one individual, a grant is issued for each person you look after, reports Dublin Live.
The grant is distributed on the first Thursday of June, meaning it will be paid on June 4 this year. It is automatically issued to recipients of the Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit and Domiciliary Care Allowance.
If you are not currently receiving one of these payments, you may still be eligible for the Carer’s Support Grant. Applications for a Carer’s Support Grant for any given year can be submitted from April of that year until 31 December of the following year. For example, you can apply for the Carer’s Support Grant in 2026 at any time from April 2026 up until 31 December 2027.
Social welfare date change
Due to the June bank holiday weekend, social welfare payments due on Monday, June 1 will be issued early. These will most likely be paid on Friday, May 29 instead.
Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance
The Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance offers a once-off, means-tested payment to qualifying families to help cover the expense of school clothing and footwear. Following amendments introduced in Budget 2026, eligible two and three-year-olds are able to qualify for the scheme for the very first time this year.
The scheme provides €160 for eligible children aged two to 11 and €285 for children aged 12 years and over in second level education. Since June 2025, if you are getting the Foster Care Allowance, you can apply for the Back to School Clothing and Footwear Allowance for each foster child. In order to qualify for the payment, applicants must meet the conditions of the scheme.
Applications for the scheme will open in June and payments are distributed throughout the summer months. A significant number of families are automatically entitled to the payment and are not required to apply.
Last year, over 126,000 families across the country availed of the scheme.
