A man in his sixties has been rescued, and another remains missing following this afternoon’s incident.
Gardaí and Emergency Services are currently at the scene of an incident on Carlingford Lough.
LMFM News understands that a vessel got into trouble on the Lough and has sunk.
Coastguard Rescue helicopter 116 was also tasked to the scene but has since returned to base.
The number of people on board has yet to be confirmed, however LMFM also understands one person remains missing at this time, with another person, a man in his sixties, rescued from the boat.
The rescued man was transferred to the care of HSE paramedics at the harbour and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for assessment.
It is believed that the boat in question was a local working boat.
A spokesperson for the Department of Transport said: “Shortly after 12:30pm today, the Irish Coast Guard’s Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) in Dublin received a report from a member of the public that a fishing vessel was sinking in Carlingford Lough near Greencastle Point, Co.Down.
The Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre (MRCC) in Belfast are co-ordinating the response to this incident. As part of this response, the Irish Coast Guard’s helicopter Rescue 116, based in Dublin, and the Greenore Coast Guard Unit were tasked by MRCC Dublin to the scene.
One person has been recovered from the sunken vessel by a local boat and transferred into the care of HSE paramedics at Greenore harbour. There is still an ongoing operation to recover another person from the casualty vessel.”
