Ireland weather: Thunder and rain before ‘summer-like’ conditions move in

Dublin was one of three counties put under a thunderstorm warning on Wednesday, and the unsettled conditions are due to stick around.
The country is in for some cloudy, rainy conditions over the coming days, but one forecaster said that “summer-like” conditions are around the corner. Pinpointing the dates, Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel predicts that from around June 10 we may see warm and sunny conditions.
We will have thundery downpours and plenty of rain first thanks to an area of low pressure.
“Quite a showery day out there across the country, plenty of heavy downpours being pushed in on the back of quite a fresh and indeed gusty west to south-west wind. And indeed already we have some thunderstorms in place across parts of Ulster, chiefly East Derry and into parts of Antrim. But it wouldn’t be surprised if we start to see some popping up here across parts East Leinster and parts of the Midlands as well” he said ina new forecast.
Thursday and Friday are also due to be rainy, before things might change up next week.
“Into next week. It looks quite mixed to begin with still, but there are tentative signs of more subtle conditions as we get towards the 10, 11, 12, in around that window with perhaps some summer-like conditions returning.”

Thursday
The day will be cool and blustery with widespread showers that may merge into longer spells of rain, though conditions will turn sunnier and less showery later in the day. Highest temperatures will reach 12 to 16 degrees in fresh, gusty westerly winds. Thursday night will be cool with clear spells and scattered western showers, with lowest temperatures dropping to between 5 and 9 degrees.
Friday
Friday opens with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers before cloud builds from the southwest during the afternoon, bringing rain to southern and western areas by evening. Highest temperatures will range from 13 to 16 degrees. Rain will spread northeastward to all areas overnight, keeping temperatures around 9 to 11 degrees in freshening southeasterly winds.
Saturday
A wet and damp start will give way to a clearing trend as rain moves northeastward through the afternoon, followed by sunny spells and later scattered showers from the west. It will turn breezy with moderate to fresh southwesterly winds and highest temperatures of 13 to 18 degrees.
Sunday
Sunday will feel cooler as blustery showers and longer spells of rain push in from the southwest, with the best of any clearer weather occurring early in the day. Highest temperatures will be between 11 and 16 degrees in moderate to fresh southwesterly winds.
Monday and Tuesday
Early next week will remain cooler than average with fresh westerly to northwesterly winds bringing scattered heavy showers alongside occasional sunny spells.
