Beasley Media Group has named longtime afternoon personalities Charlie & Debbie as the new hosts of mornings on “Country 103.7” WSOC-FM in Charlotte. The married duo will officially move into the station’s prime daypart beginning Monday, June 22.
The promotion comes after years of success on the station, where Charlie & Debbie have become among the most recognizable voices in Charlotte country radio. Known for their local involvement, listener engagement and deep ties to the Carolinas, the pair will now wake up listeners each weekday as the station enters its next chapter following the retirement of “Tanner in the Morning.”
“We’re thrilled to move Charlie & Debbie to mornings on Country 103.7,” Beasley Media Group Charlotte Vice President and Market Manager Mac Edwards said in the announcement. “They have built an incredible relationship with our listeners during afternoon drive over the years and truly embody the spirit of the station and the community we serve.”
Edwards added that the duo’s chemistry, warmth and passion for country music make them a natural fit for the morning slot.
Beasley Chief Content Officer Justin Chase said Charlie & Debbie have consistently demonstrated an ability to connect with listeners in an authentic way.
“They understand the importance of local connection, entertainment, and community, and we’re excited to see them bring that same energy and personality to mornings on WSOC-FM,” Chase said.
WSOC Program Director Cameron Moore described the move as a logical progression for the veteran hosts.
“Charlie & Debbie transitioning to mornings on Country 103.7 feels like a natural, and exciting next chapter,” Moore said. “For two decades, they have created a special, authentic relationship with our listeners during afternoon drive. I’m confident their connection, humor, and talent will be welcomed into mornings as our listeners will get to start their day with talent that they already know and trust.”
For Charlie & Debbie, the transition represents an opportunity to continue serving an audience they describe as family.
“The Carolinas and WSOC have been our home for more than 20 years,” the duo said. “It’s been such an amazing experience driving our audience home each afternoon with a smile on their face, and we’re thrilled and honored to have the opportunity to bring that same vibe to mornings — helping people start their day.”
They added, “We think of our Country 103.7 listeners as family. We’ll just be getting the reunion started earlier each day now.”
The pair also paid tribute to Rob Tanner, Catherine Lane and Chris Allen of the “Tanner in the Morning Show,” whose retirement created the opening in morning drive.
“As for our brothers and sister on the Tanner Show, there are no words,” they said. “We have been family for more than two decades and have literally been through every phase of life together. As large as your shoes are to fill on the air, it pales in comparison to the chasm in our hearts not having you in our lives on a daily basis. Enjoy your retirement. You’ve earned it. And like the rest of the Carolinas, we love you — always.”
In addition to the morning show transition, Captain Jim, most recently heard on “Tanner in the Morning,” will remain part of the station’s morning lineup, continuing to provide traffic reports and other contributions on the new Charlie & Debbie show.
Beasley said details regarding the station’s new afternoon-drive programming will be announced at a later date.
