Our tipster has England avoiding defeat against the World champions.

The road to the Women’s World Cup in 2027 reaches a key qualification point on Friday night as England face Spain in Mallorca.

This meeting is a rerun of the 2023 final, where Spain emerged victorious and denied the Lionesses a first world crown in Australia, but there was some revenge in 2025 as England edged a penalty shootout win over La Roja to retain their European crown.

England have been perfect so far in qualifying, with four wins from four, and Spain trail them in Group A3 after losing 1-0 to Sarina Wiegman’s team in the reverse fixture in June.

Ahead of this game, PP News tipster Tom Desborough delivers a super Bet Builder – so let’s get his Spain v England tips…

England to win or draw

England are four for four in their World Cup qualifiers so far with a win against Ukraine, two wins over Iceland, and one win over Friday night’s opponents, Spain. The Lionesses have only conceded one goal during that run, in the opening 6-1 victory against Ukraine.

The 1-0 defeat to England is the only game Spain have lost in 90 minutes in their last 19 games, a run that stretches back to February 2025. The last time they failed to win at home was in December 2023, when they drew 0-0 with Italy. They have won nine on the bounce since.

England know a draw will give them a huge advantage in securing top spot and automatic qualification and despite Spain’s dominant home record, the Lionesses’ strength in defence should be enough to claim a point, or maybe even nick all three.

Under 2.5 goals

Goals have been hard to come by whenever these two face off, with only one of their last five meetings seeing over 2.5 goals.

As mentioned above, England have only conceded one goal in four games during qualifying. That run extends even further as they kept clean sheets in their final three games last year, meaning they’ve only conceded one goal in seven matches.

Despite Spain’s talent up front and knack for scoring at home, England’s impressively resistant defence and realistic need for only a draw could keep the game tense and low-scoring.

Lauren James to score

Despite picking up a small knock at the end of last weekend’s World 7s tournament with Chelsea, Lauren James has been passed fit to play in this one and has been training with the Lionesses this week.

England manager Sarina Wiegman very rarely leaves the star forward out, so she’s very likely to be in from the start here. James claimed three goals and three assists in her final four WSL games this season, so she finds herself in fine form.

If the Lionesses are to get on the scoresheet on Friday, we’ll be surprised if Lauren James isn’t involved, so we’re backing her to find the net here.
