Four popular swimming spots in Dublin are closed to bathers until at least Thursday, due to poor water quality after heavy rainfall.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council installed a prohibition notice at Seapoint beach yesterday following consultation with the HSE.
In a statement, the council said this was after “updated sampling results” of the water.
Three other locations with a prohibition notice are Blackrock Baths Shore, Corbawn Strand and the Forty Foot.
The council said the ban on swimming at those four locations will remain in place until Thursday, pending further sampling.
There are also a number of prior warning notices in place which advise people not to swim at five locations.
They are Sandycove, Dún Laoghaire Baths, Coliemore Harbour, Killiney beach and Whiterock beach.
The council added that it will keep the situation under review and that further sampling will take place at high tide on Tuesday 9 June – the results of which will be expected on Thursday.
