Uisce Éireann have confirmed crews have completed restoration works after homes across the northside were left without water yesterday. The widespread supply outage was caused by a mechanical issue at the Harbour View Reservoir.

Properties across St Luke’s, Lower Glanmire Road, Farranree, Shanakiel, Sunday’s Well, Shandon, Commons Road and the surrounding areas were impacted, with many without water for hours on Saturday evening.

But on Sunday morning, homes across the northside began having a different issue – badly discoloured water. One resident who said it was the “worst I have ever seen” told Cork Beo: “I thought we got free coffee.”

The utility company has advised customers that they may experience temporary water discolouration as supply returns. Customers experiencing discoloured water are advised to:

Run the cold kitchen tap for several minutes until it runs clear. If the water does not return to a clear colour, customers are advised not to drink it as a precaution and to contact Uisce ÉireannUisce Éireann can be contacted through the water.ie website and customer care helpline on 1800 278 278.

Uisce Éireann’s Niall O’Riordan thanked customers for their patience as the network recharges. He said: “We understand the inconvenience of an unplanned interruption, and we appreciate customers’ support as we worked to return a normal supply.”
