‘We would be very appreciative’

Cork city’s much-loved Izz Café is a very popular spot, usually for its amazing menu – but this week a passer-by took a particular fancy to one of their outdoor dining chairs.
The team at Izz, recently named as one of Ireland’s very best food spots, shared a snap from CCTV of somebody making off with the chair outside the restaurant on George’s Quay. However, despite the loss, there are no hard feelings – the café would just like its furniture back.
Posting the image on social media, Izz Café said: “If the person who took out chair could return it, we would be very appreciative.”
In a follow-up post, they added: “It would be much easier than contacting the Gardaí.”
Cork city is no stranger to honest punters returning items they’ve nabbed. Last year, the “most honest customer ever” returned a pint glass to the Franciscan Well bar – five years after stealing it on a night out. And that’s not all – the stolen glass was sent back to the Leeside pub all the way from France.
On that occasion, the confessional glass thief, Clément, was rewarded with a hamper for her honesty.
It seems unlikely that Izz Café’s chair has gone much further than the city centre – but wherever it is, the award-winning foodie spot just wants it back.
Over the years, the Izz Café team have scooped numerous awards including the title of ‘Best Middle Eastern in Ireland’, a global cuisines award and making The Sunday Times’s list of the Best 100 Restaurants in Ireland. And that’s not even mentioning all the celebrity approval they’ve earned, like from Kneecap or famous Irish actor Robert Sheehan.
