Over 70 tourism professionals have graduated from Fáilte Ireland’s Tourism Learning Network Programme, celebrating the successful completion of the first initiative delivered under the Regenerative Tourism and Placemaking Scheme.

Held at Burtown House, Athy, Co. Kildare, the event marked a significant milestone for tourism businesses across the Midlands, with the programme designed to support sustainable development, build skills and help future-proof the region’s visitor economy.

Co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the EU Just Transition Fund, the programme provided participants with tailored professional development across areas including strategic planning, digital development, sustainability and accessibility.

Over two years, the initiative brought together tourism businesses and stakeholders from across the Midlands, helping participants strengthen their capabilities, enhance visitor experiences and support the transition towards a more resilient and sustainable tourism sector.

Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke TD, said: “I want to congratulate everyone involved in the Tourism Learning Network Programme. This practical investment has been provided as part of the EU Just Transition Fund, supporting tourism businesses, building local skills and creating real opportunities for communities across the Midlands. It’s about backing people, strengthening the region’s visitor offering and helping to grow local economies.”

Caroline Bocquel, CEO at Fáilte Ireland, said the programme represented an important milestone for participants and the wider tourism sector, highlighting the importance of skills, ambition and commitment in building long-term success across the Midlands.

Clare Bannon, Director of the Eastern and Midland Regional Assembly, said the programme has helped build professional capacity across the region, equipping tourism businesses with the skills needed to adapt, diversify and grow while supporting a more sustainable future for local communities.
