While the World Cup is currently the main talking point in the sport, you can be sure that clubs are working away behind the scenes on some potential transfer business ahead of next season. It is likely Troy Parrott will be a topic of discussion at many of them, with the Ireland star likely to be on the move over the coming weeks.
It is expected that Parrott will leave AZ Alkmaar this summer, having had the best campaign of his career to date at the Dutch side in 2025/26. He would end the season with 31 goals and 12 assists for the club in all competitions.
The Dubliner has been linked with a number of teams in recent months, with moves to England, Italy, Germany, and Spain all thought to be a possibility.
In saying that, some are theorising that the player could return to familiar surroundings during the off-season.
Spurs Fans Develop Troy Parrott Theory
Troy Parrott spent five years as a player at Tottenham Hotspur, making a handful of appearances at first team level. However, he never seemed likely to make a real breakthrough in North London after some underwhelming loan spells elsewhere.
The Irishman has since blossomed elsewhere, with Spurs among the clubs said to be monitoring his progress in the Netherlands. It seems as though some of the club’s supporters have now developed a theory related to his potential return.
It was reported by The Athletic over the weekend that midfielder Lucas Bergvall was keen to leave Spurs this summer. It remains to be seen if he is sold, but his exit could leave the club short on players that could be classified as club-trained in European competition.
While they are not in Europe this season, it is something that needs to be considered for a club of Tottenham’s size. UEFA rules dictate that teams must have four club-trained players in their 25 man squad, with such footballers needing to be on the club’s books for three full seasons between the ages of 15-21.

The Premier League club could be short on such options over the next couple of seasons. As a result, some are predicting a move for Troy Parrott to ease those concerns.

If Troy Parrott is open to being a backup and potentially fighting for his place, that would be a good option to bring in to help address this. https://t.co/wxcEsIPuiN

While Spurs do not have a buyback option for Troy Parrott, they did insert a 20 percent sell on clause in his move to AZ Alkmaar. As a result, they would be able to negotiate a lower fee than other interested suitors this summer.
It remains to be seen whether such a move would be a realistic prospect for either party.
