Amad to do the business in Philly!

Don’t ya just love football? The Ivory Coast may have seen their hopes of a dream victory over Germany crumble like week-old Lebkuchen, but they can probably afford to draw against Curacao on matchday three. Doing that will most likely see them succeed where even the great Didier Drogba failed, and reach the World Cup knockout stage for the first time, after three failed attempts in 2006, 2010 and 2014.

The Ivorians are obvious favourites on paper, but those who expected Curacao to lie back and think of… well… Curacao, just days after their 7-1 thrashing by Germany, were stunned as they held Ecuador to a 0-0 draw. There’s plenty on the line here as the two sides go at it in Philadelphia.

PP tipster Feargal Brennan has some lovely punts for Curacao v Ivory Coast, including a player pick covered by Paddy’s Super Sub offer. Let’s go!

Ivory Coast to win & under 3.5 goals: Yes

Ivory Coast come into this game with their destiny still in their own hands regardless of how Ecuador fare against Germany. Julian Nagelsmann’s team have already sealed top spot, and the Ivorians are two points ahead of Ecuador, in the race for second place.

It’s a case of getting the job done for Emerse Fae’s team against a poor Curacao side who have scored just one World Cup goal. Curacao’s defensive resilience vs. Ecuador shows they’re not a pushover against mid-level opposition, but The Elephants only have two goals so far.

Amad Diallo to score

Amad Diallo was the hero in the opening game as his 90th minute goal snatched a win over Ecuador and he could be the go-to again as Ivory Coast return to Lincoln Financial Field. He wasn’t as impactful against a revived Germany, but the Manchester United forward has a brilliant record of six goals in his last 15 games for Fae.

Both teams 2+ cards

Curacao have nothing to lose by going all-out in this game, but discipline has been an issue for them, after picking up five bookings in a gritty showing against Ecuador. Ivory Coast are also not shy to jump into tackles with Fae’s team landing three bookings in their meeting with the Ecuadorians.

With lots at stake, the challenges could fly, and two cards each looks likely.
