A man has been arrested following an alleged stabbing at a business in Cobh, which saw the victim rushed to hospital by paramedics.
The attack occurred inside a commercial premises in the heart of the seaside town, prompting a major emergency response from Gardaí, the local fire service and National Ambulance Service personnel. A man in his 30s was arrested at the scene shortly after the attack, and he is currently being held for questioning.
The victim, another man aged in his 50s, was stretchered away from the scene by paramedics and is now receiving treatment in hospital. The man’s injuries have been described as ‘non-life-threatening’ at this time.
The attacker is currently being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a local Garda station. He may be held for up to 24 hours without charge, and it’s understood that Gardaí have conducted interviews with a number of eye-witnesses.
Investigations into the attack are ongoing, and footage of the incident has been shared on social media. Gardaí have urged people to refrain from posting or sharing these videos.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí received a report of an incident of assault that occurred at a commercial premises in Cobh, Co. Cork on Thursday, 25 th June 2026 at approximately 6:40 pm.
“A male in his 50s was conveyed to the hospital for the treatment of injuries believed to be non-life-threatening at this time.
“A male in his 30s has been arrested and conveyed to a Garda Station in Co. Cork. He is currently being detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. Investigations are ongoing.”
Elsewhere in Cork, Gardaí have issued an appeal for information in a bid to identify another man who carried out a brutal attack in the city centre. The appeal was aired on this week’s episode of Crimecall, which showed a young man striking the victim several times and kicking him as he lay helpless on the ground.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, and footage of the incident appears to have been recorded by someone passing by, who later handed it over to the Gardaí. The incident occurred near Alfred Street last August, and CCTV footage captured an image of the attacker as he left the scene.
The suspect is a man believed to be in his twenties, of medium build, and he was wearing a very distinctive cap at the time of the attack. Gardaí shared an image of the suspect and a brief physical description in the hopes that someone may recognise them.
