Michael Bublé surprised fans with an intimate performance at Dublin’s Ruby Sessions on Friday night ahead of his shows in Dublin and Limerick this weekend.

The Canadian singer was the surprise guest at the well-known music evening in Doyles pub on College Street where he sang a selection of his hits, including Dance With Me Tonight and Heart Skips a Beat, and songs from his forthcoming new album, which he has described as “a love letter to country music”.

The Ruby Sessions, which usually takes place every Tuesday, was founded in 1999 by Niall Muckian and Conor Donovan and has become a mainstay of the Dublin music scene and is highly regarded for its policy of giving exposure to new acts.

It is known for its “blind booking” format that sees music fans purchase tickets to support music without knowing the identity of the performers until they walk on stage.

Widely praised for supporting fresh voices, it has also hosted some very famous names over the years including Ed Sheeran, who played a two-hour set at the venue in 2014, Paolo Nutini, Mumford & Sons, Lewis Capaldi, and Hozier.

A frequent visitor to Ireland, Bublé plays Malahide Castle in Dublin on Saturday night, Thomond Park, Limerick on Sunday and Ormeau Park, Belfast on Wednesday, 1 July.
